The Eternal Virtues in a New Era
Beloved seeker after wisdom, let us now consider the most crucial virtue in an age of relativism and information overload: discernment. Truth is now too often drowned out by all the noise in our environments, with falsehoods and AI lies dressed as virtues, the soldier must wield their powers in God with both precision and greatest humility. Discernment has much to do with the ability to distinguish between right and wrong, surely, but it also becomes the art of recognising deeper truths and greater good with the expansion of our freedom in it. It requires the virtues of Prudence and Temperance to temper our judgements and align our actions with the divine order.
The soldier in Christ knows that discernment is active engagement, demanding constant vigilance and effort. In the domain of Logos, where ethical realignments are pursued through dialectical reasoning, discernment becomes the bridge between knowledge and wisdom. It enables us to navigate the complexities of modern life with clarity, avoiding the traps of spiritual defeat that await those who lack this vital skill. The Book of Revelation calls us to “overcome” through faith, a command that is only possible when we possess the discernment to recognise the true dimensions of our struggles and ask for strength to endure them, and keep asking for more to bolster others.
Grand Bridge of Excellence
The grand bridge of Excellence between Prudence and Ethics in Structural Virtues Theory underscores the importance of these central virtues in guiding our actions, lining up ultimately for Willpower and God’s Truth through it. Prudence teaches us to weigh our choices carefully, considering not only their immediate consequences but also their long-term impacts for ourselves, our families, and our communities. Ethics is the bounty of Prudence and Excellence, so that true spiritual growth can take full root. Together, these virtues form the foundation of discernment, enabling us to act toward Justice with wisdom and integrity, in a world that too often rewards ignorance rather than honesty truth.
Information is abundant yet understanding is scarce, so that the soldier must cultivate discernment. It is through this skill that we are able to resist the seductive promises of relativism, which offer no true answers only the illusion of novelty in the stead of legitimate choices. The soldier’s discernment allows him to see at deeper layers, spotting the hidden patterns and deeper truths surrounding us. This is absolutely a spiritual calling which requires us to align ourselves with the universal order and trust in God’s ability to include us in His greater plans. The soldier in Christ must know what is right insofar as possible, but also have the strength to act upon it, guided by the unshakeable conviction that God’s will is the only path to genuine good. In this way, we shall not only endure the trials of this age but also emerge stronger, wiser, and more united in our pursuit of divine purpose.
