Our Condition
Dearly beloved, ignorance has always been recognised as fundamental to the human setting. However, it is equally true that error is typically not recognisable without a more complete picture of the correct thing and its purpose. Error, therefore, cannot be ignored. To define ourselves by the sin or error, however, is to lose sight of the very purpose of our existence: to grow, to learn, and to become better in the Lord. This is why morality and awareness are so important to the onset of greater honesty with the self. Error is not you and it is not the fool either, for you were created with progress in mind.
Too many focus on errors, however, instead of progress. So what drowns out the quiet voice of progress for you? We are told to fear failure and pushed into viewing ourselves through past errors, but, past a certain point, this only serves to stifle growth and creative good. The problem is often that we fixate too much upon some sin or error with the same perspective, instead of being patient with ourselves in finding what will stop the error. What are we not understanding? I am not asking this to berate us or cause anxiety, but it is a question of deepest love.
If error is not turned around to serve our progress, it has no place in our lives. This is what it means for the workings of grace and salvation to freely available to all people. It was godly discourse, prayer and action, on error and goodness which best taught our ancestors. It continues to be how we are best taught as well. We best discover the most pertinent things we do not know and learn what we must do differently. We find the strength to persevere in our awareness of God’s goodness and greatness, a grace nearly unbelievable. The most virtuous error as well, so remember, the saints of old were once sinners who found their way back to grace, yet they chose to enrich us with what they had learned.
So, beloved of God, my parting words for you today: you are the progress, not the error. I will repeat that in a different way for clarity. You are best found in the process of progress beyond the error, so long as you learn, struggle, and grow. Progress is continuous action of self-renewal and transformation. Confront error wherever you may find it with humility and honesty, why? Simple, you are best as progress. Be it.
