Reflecting His Light

Magnanimity serves as a mirror reflecting God’s love back at us in all its splendour. This is a mirror we must share to truly love. When we embrace forgiveness, for others while also accepting the gravity of God’s forgiving love for ourselves, we align our hearts with the divine rhythm of existence. If God’s love is boundless and enabling, shouldn’t ours be too? Magnanimity teaches us to extend this same grace to those around us, recognising that each person carries their own burdens and struggles. To stumble is human; to rise again until you stumble no more in that sin is the straight and narrow path of the divine.

Magnanimity enables the eternal action, grounding us in humility and compassion. People’s worth isn’t defined by flaws but by the capacity to grow, learn, and love on a higher level. Forgiveness and grace is not softness. This is all about strength and building strength: a profound, unyielding resolve to embrace truth even when it’s painful, in fact especially when it is most painful. Forgiving others doesn’t mean condoning their actions; it means releasing ourselves from the poison of bitterness. We look toward eternal glory, not in the here and now. The sinner inside is the one to conqueror, the sinners outside are similarly subdued through the work of God through Holy Spirit.

Consider the example of a parent who forgives a wayward child, not because they approve of the child’s choices but because they love them deeply enough to see beyond the mistakes. The realisation is that the deeds are not as important as the person and their potential. This has nothing to do with being too weak and isn’t about lowered expectations, but rather the highest of expectations in our ability to learn and find that path again. This an act of tremendous courage, a willingness to face reality head-on while holding fast to hope. The truth is, we are most empowered in all ways through the empowerment of others, as this is the highest mortal good achievable and enables the greatest freedom in reality. We may free ourselves most by helping to free others.
