Greater Spiritual Recognitions
Structural Virtues Theory is a philosophical compass designed to navigate the complex terrain of moral growth. This theory posits that our souls are not simply blank slates but intricate architectures, built upon foundational virtues that interlink which, when more well understood, propel us toward spiritual maturity. These virtues are forces built into the individual reality within communal organisation; shaping our thoughts, actions, and, ultimately, our destinies.
The theory is elegantly simple yet profoundly complex, comprising three aspects of Honesty, Analysis, and Perseverance across four moments: Awareness, Propriety, Morality, and Spirit. From these, twelve virtues emerge, each playing a crucial role in our moral evolution. Let us not be overwhelmed by the complexity; instead, let us focus on the simplicity and marvel at the overall symmetry in the structure, a best attempt at representing the ordering process that frames our own design for rebirth.
Where does this journey of recognitions begin? With identity through forgiveness, that sacred act which transcends absolution most internally and becomes a catalyst for spiritual renewal. To forgive is not merely to pardon an offence; it is to embrace a deeper truth: to recognise our own fallibility and the boundless grace of God, to which we owe all goodness.
This recognition is the heart of magnanimity, the first virtue in our structural framework. It begins in awareness, that moment of self-reflection where we acknowledge our flaws and the need for redemption. This awareness is not born of guilt but of honesty: the courage to see ourselves as we truly are, warts and all as well as how much work we have in striving to live up to God’s love.
Awareness alone is not enough; it must be tempered by honesty: the willingness to confront our imperfections without flinching. This honesty is not cruel or meant to be judgemental but rather empowering: it is compassionate, born of the knowledge that we are all created works in progress, shaped by the divine potter’s hands.
Forgiveness and grace blossom from this soil ever more as the soul finds increase: a seed sown in the garden of the soul, nurtured by awareness and honesty. It is a humble beginning, yet one that holds within it the promise of transformation between both identities. This recognition naturally minimises what we started from and maximises upon what we could be; which replicates love for God and our neighbours. These two identities are all the parts needed for a proper recognition of our greater and final path, our true purpose in this life.
