Extreme Focus and Targeting Become Idolisation of the Goal or Idea in Itself
Imagine a runner who trains with such intensity to improve her speed that she injures herself in not getting the rest she needs. Her extreme focus on one aspect of training leads to an outcome that undermines her overall goals. Similarly, extreme targeting in human goals often results in methods that are unfit for sustained success.
Extreme targeting leads to over-emphasis on certain aspects while neglecting others, which is to say stretching past our limits. This imbalance makes methods unsustainable. Without simplicity, adaptability, and appropriate flexibility, methods wither away. Rigid approaches that cannot change with valid circumstances or contend with error are doomed to fail. Extreme targeting and focus result in methods that overshoot the mark, leading to outcomes that are not only unfit but also counterproductive.
From military strategies that backfired to grand economic policies that collapsed, there are innumerable instances where extreme targeting led to gross failure. Methods out-focused in such a way undermine everything. Some might argue that intensity is key to success. While this can be seen as true, it must be balanced and this idea largely co-opts the roles of motivation and passion. Extreme focus can be necessary in certain contexts, but without strict boundaries and recognition of limits, it risks becoming counterproductive.
The pursuit of divine goals is the aim rooted in eternal principles offering paths to enduring success. Imagine an orchestra arrangement of musicians playing a brilliantly composed piece designed to appeal to people emotionally, the result is a symphony resonating deeply. This endures the test of time, and across generations. Similarly, aiming for God, with Christ as our sheet music, offers a harmonious approach that avoids the extremes common of human ambitions.
Unlike human goals, which veer into extremism due to ambition and mortal passions or pursuits, divine goals align with eternal principles that promote societal stability, balance, and moderation. Aiming for God involves pursuing not just one aspect of life but life wholly, balancing needs in deepest care and love. Divine goals offer a wider perspectives, which can border on the eternal in impact, transcending generations and providing lasting meaning.
Extreme targeting is like a laser beam which is intense and focused, but if misaligned, it can cause more harm than good. Over-emphasis on one aspect can lead to neglect of others, creating an imbalance that undermines the overall goal. That overall goal becomes lost in a sea of extreme measures that ultimately undermine success. The soul is best expressed in acts based in love, faith, and charity; which is to say in harmony with God.
